This is Kalial.
Kalial is a village in District Chakwal, Punjab, Pakistan. It sits on the Potohar plateau, a land of dry ravines and rain-fed fields, with the Salt Range to its south.
Farming here depends on the rain. Across the plateau, families grow wheat and groundnut, and many households have members serving in the army or working abroad. For those of us who live far away, that link to home is something we share.
Lawa is 37 km away and Talagang 42 km. The Kallar Kahar lake and the Kallar Kahar interchange on the M2 motorway are each about 45 km in a straight line. The fuller story of Kalial, its people and its history, is still to be told by the villagers themselves, and we invite them to share it here.
