Kot Shimali is a village in District Chakwal, Punjab, Pakistan. It is a kot, an old fortified settlement, and it stands on the Potohar plateau, a dry land cut by ravines where farming depends on rain and families grow wheat and groundnut. The Salt Range lies to the south.
Several well-known places are within reach: the Malot temple (about 22 km), Choa Saidan Shah (about 23 km), Dandot in the Salt Range (about 23 km) and the Katas Raj temples (about 26 km), all measured in a straight line.
Like many families across the plateau, many of ours have members serving in the army or working abroad. The full story of this village, its people and its past is still to be told by those who live here and by those who carry it with them.
