Mohra Awan is a small hamlet in District Chakwal, Punjab, on the Potohar plateau near the Salt Range foothills. Most of its people belong to the Awan tribe, after whom the village is named, and they speak Punjabi. Dhudial is about 11 km away in a straight line.
The land is dry and rain-fed, and farming means wheat and groundnut. Many households have members serving in the Pakistan Army, and others work in Gulf countries, Europe and Australia. The village is known locally for military service.
Its six mosques include the principal Markazi Jamia Masjid Hanfia, and each Eid al-Fitr the village ground hosts a cricket tournament. The full story of Mohra Awan is still to be told, and its own people are the ones to tell it.
